The Outdoor Roadmap Event Management team and the Outdoor Roadmap (ORM), worked with the National Forest Foundation (NFF), Wildlife Heritage Foundation of Wyoming (WHFW), and the Denver Area Council Boy Scouts of America to raise $750,000 during a three-week period. These funds will be used to support hunter and shooter recruitment and retention and wildlife conservation efforts.

The Outdoor Roadmap Event Management team was instrumental in creating and providing operational and fundraising support for the NFF Sporting Clays Invitational held at Dover Furnace Shooting Grounds in Dover Plains, N.Y., at the Old West Invitational Turkey Shoot in Hulett, Wyo., and the Denver Area Council Boy Scouts of America Sporting Clays Invitational at the Peaceful Valley Ranch outside Denver, Colo.

"NFF's Sporting Clays Invitational, Wyoming's Old West Invitational Turkey Shoot, and the Denver Area Council Sporting Clays Invitational were hugely successful fundraisers," said Jim Moore, president of ROM. "We look forward to teaming up with state wildlife agencies and other organizations to host similar type events to raise money for conservation efforts, hunter recruitment and retention programs, and safety and training - all vital parts of Outdoor Roadmap's mission."

National Forest Foundation-Outdoor Roadmap Sporting Clays Invitational

The NFF-ROF 17th Annual Sporting Clays Invitational drew more than 300 shooters and guests from across the country dedicated to raising funds to restore America's 193-million-acre National Forest System. ORM was a signature sponsor of the May 6-7 event, providing funding and operational support. InterMedia Outdoors (publisher of Game & Fish magazines and more than 20 other outdoor publications and websites) was a key partner to organize and stage the event.  CEO Jeff Paro was a co-chair of the event.

Shooters organized into teams and enjoyed an exciting round of competitive sporting clays, which is known to many as being like golf with a shotgun. After that, everyone was treated to a shooting demonstration by Staff Sgt. Joshua M. Richmond, gold medal winner in Men's Double Trap in 2010 and 2009 and Staff Sgt. Mark L. Weeks, former US National Shotgun Team Coach at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs and four-time member of the World Championship team.  Both Sgt Richmond and Sgt Weeks are members of the prestigious US Army Fort Benning Marksmanship Unit.

Through sponsorships, donations, live and silent auctions, the event generated more than $300,000 in support of the NFF's mission to engage communities in conserving and improving National Forests and Grasslands.  The guest speaker at the banquet and auction was Tom Brokaw, special correspondent for NBC News. Brokaw's message of the importance of philanthropy in the 21st Century supports the direction ORM and the Outdoor Roadmap Event Management team are taking.

"I think we're going to see a great deal more of what you represent here tonight, the public-private partnership in which private citizens, philanthropists, people with business and cultural interests step up to fill needs no longer able to be filled by the federal government, state government or community government," Brokaw said.

"By your presence here tonight, you are taking that important step forward of constantly reenlisting your citizenship, and for that I am grateful."

Brokaw provided an example of his commitment by donating a pheasant hunt that he will guide and provide the service of his dogs. That contribution alone raised more than $20,000 for NFF.

Smokey Bear even took time out of his busy schedule to support this important fundraising event and posed with guests for photos.

Tom Brokaw, keynote speaker at the NFF-ROF Sporting Clays Invitational, took a moment to pose with Smokey Bear.

"Over the course of two days, we experienced an amazing level of camaraderie and generosity on behalf of our country's great public lands," said NFF President Bill Possiel. "Thanks to our partner, the Outdoor Roadmap, as well as dozens of other sponsors and donors, the Sporting Clays Invitational continues to provide a fun yet meaningful way for people to learn more about our National Forests and help perpetuate them for future generations."

Wyoming Old West Invitational Turkey Shoot

The 2nd Annual Old West Invitational Turkey Shoot, held May 12-14 in Hulett, Wyo., featured 38 teams committed to raising funds to conserve Wyoming wildlife. The Outdoor Roadmap Outdoor Roadmap Event Management team initially created the event with WHFW and partnered with NWTF and the Greater Hulett Community to host it.

Event co-hosts, WHFW and the Greater Hulett Community Center, treated celebrities and special guests to a weekend of turkey hunting. The Outdoor Roadmap Event Management team assisted with event planning and fundraising resources. A portion of the proceeds from this event will be used to help fund research, education and habitat projects that benefit Wyoming's more than 600 game and nongame species.

The event was honored to host Wyoming Governor Matt Mead and his two predecessors, Governor Dave Freudenthal and Governor Mike Sullivan.  Scott Talbott, director of Wyoming Game and Fish Department, also participated in the event.  Other distinguished guests included Jim Neiman, Owner of Neiman Enterprises in Hulett and a major organizer and supporter of the event; and Tom Buchanan, president of the University of Wyoming.  In addition, country music star Paul Bogart; current and former NFL, MLB and NBA players were in attendance, along with TV celebrity hunters, including Bone Collector host Michael Waddell. The Outdoor Roadmap team got some help from Bass Pro Redhead Pro Staff Hunter Rob Keck who called in five birds for three different teams.

"The Wildlife Heritage Foundation of Wyoming is about funding on-the-ground projects that benefit four focus areas: species conservation, habitat improvement, access and education," said Craig Showalter, president and CEO of the WHFW. "It's great to have the support of the Outdoor Roadmap team from Outdoor Roadmap, who shares our commitment to sustaining and improving Wyoming's natural resources."

Denver Area Council Boy Scouts of America Sporting Clays Invitational

On May 21, 2011, the Denver Area Council Boy Scouts of America hosted the Sporting Clays Invitational at the Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch.  The event was supported by Outdoor Roadmap's Event Management Team of Outdoor Roadmap.

More than 120 participants shot at the Travis Family Shooting Sports Facility, which attracts 9,000 new shooters each year. The funds generated will be used to support the Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch and activities of the Denver Area Council Boy Scouts of America, including recruiting and retaining shooters. Bill Pauls led a team including Tim Travis, Peter Coors and Grant Gregory.

"The Sporting Clays Invitational Shoot is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Denver Area Council Boy Scouts of America.  Thanks to the Outdoor Roadmap team and the other sponsors, we are able to maximize participation and fundraising efforts," said Tim Travis, of the Denver Area Council Boy Scouts of America.

In addition to Outdoor Roadmap, key supporters, sponsors and participants included Anschutz Corporation, Anschutz Foundation, Cabela's, Eaton Metal Products, EKS&H Public Accountants , Energy Corporation of America, First Bank, MillerCoors and Wells Fargo.
