The reason may be unclear, but I’ll take a win anytime I can get it. For decades now, hunter numbers have seen a decline and perceived political correctness has caused a decline in the public’s perception of hunting. Well, that seems to be changing. Whether it is a true shift or simple a result of gun control advocate’s rhetoric, I’ll chalk up the “W” and smile all the way.

In some states, such as Florida, spring Turkey hunting season is well underway, while in others such as Kentucky, spring turkey hunters are just preparing for opening day on April 13, 2013. In Texas, turkey hunters have been able to pursue the elusive Rio in some counties while the Eastern season is just starting on April 15, 2013 in 28 eastern counties.

Ducks Unlimited's Great Lakes and Atlantic Region (GLAR) was recognized last week with the National Blue-winged Teal Award during the 78th North American Wildlife and Natural Resources Conference in Arlington, Virginia. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) presented GLAR with the award for DU's work benefiting waterfowl and other wetland birds.

As is true with many issues in politics, the name sounds common sense — universal background checks — but the devil is often in the details. First, would the law actually advance the safety of the citizenry, and if so, would it make the citizens safer than the existing laws? Second, would the law be more harmful than good. Many pro gun supporters point to the administration's statements and a historical account that universal gun registration is a necessary step to universal gun confiscation.
