• President Obama is expected to announce his administration’s recommendations for gun control today.  It is anticipated the focus will be on assault weapons, high capacity magazines and background checks.

The first day of the SHOT Show (Hunting, Shooting, Outdoors Trade Show) opened yesterday with more than 60,000 attendees planned for the weeklong event.  Thousands waited eagerly for the doors to open at 8:30 am at the Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas.  Even with all the talk of possible gun control in Washington, it didn’t seem to diminish the interest with dealers, distributors and retailers as they saw they newest and greatest in hunting and shooting items.

Ok, a bit of a disclaimer. Glock unveiled its 30S today, and I was at the front of the line with every intention of putting it through its paces. However, the lovely Boulder City, Nevada treated us to 25-degree temps with 30 mph winds bringing the wind chill down to about 15 F. By the time everything was open and the line was ready to shoot, I was numb with cold and my fingers were burning at the touch. And yes, I would like some cheese with that whine.

Remington is launching its new 783 bolt-action rifle with entirely new platform designed from the ground up.  The “7” comes from the 700 line of rifles, the “8” is a throwback to the affordable, but reliable model 788 and the “3” for 2013.  The suggested retail price is $451, but at retail it will be closer to $400.
